Clark, Donna Lively

“My two Creative Renewal Fellowships have been immeasurable gifts that have taken me on unique and illuminating paths that I would not have otherwise discovered.”

Donna's project focused on documenting the history of Holy Trinity Music School in Port au Prince, Haiti. In Haiti, she spent time teaching and performing, and completed over 100 interviews and conducted academic historical research. Donna had to revise her plans due to the earthquake in Haiti, which destroyed the school's buildings. She focused on collecting musical instruments and sheet music to help keep the Holy Trinity Music School functioning, and fundraising for rebuilding efforts. "My documentation of the history and stories connected with this program became more important and timely in a way I never imagined, therefore that work also continued while I was dealing with the immediate needs and trauma that ensued."

Donna has made many unexpected connections, including joining the board of Instrumental Change, a Boston non-profit fostering social mobility and justice through music education and teaching viola master classes at Loyola University in New Orleans. "My professional life has definitely been expanded in many directions. Personally, it has been incredible to make connections with so many amazing people whom I would not have met if it weren't for this fellowship."
