ARTS & ECONOMIC PROSPERITY V (AEP5)
The findings from Arts & Economic Prosperity V send a clear and welcome message: leaders who care about community and economic vitality can feel good about choosing to invest in the arts. Arts & Economic Prosperity V is the fifth study of the nonprofit arts and culture industry’s impact on the economy. The most comprehensive study of its kind ever conducted, it features customized findings on 182 study regions representing all 50 states and the District of Columbia as well as estimates of economic impact nationally.
Nationally, the industry generated $166.3 billion dollars of economic activity—$63.8 billion by the nation’s nonprofit arts and culture organizations in addition to $102.5 billion in event-related expenditures by their audiences. This economic activity supports 4.6 million full-time jobs. In Indianapolis, the arts industry generates more than $440 million in economic activity annually, supporting more than 14,729 full-time jobs. Below are key findings, statistics, and information for Indianapolis and links to the national study results.
"Understanding and acknowledging the incredible economic impact of the nonprofit arts and culture, we must always remember their fundamental value. They foster beauty, creativity, originality, and vitality. The arts inspire us, sooth us, provoke us, involve us, and connect us. But they also create jobs and contribute to the economy."
