Help support Indy's Creative Comeback.

Why Your Support Matters

Like many organizations, the Arts Council faced significant financial losses in 2020, and we are counting on Start with Art to fund our general operations and community programs.  Thanks to your generosity last year, we were able to:

Invest $13.2 million to help artists and organizations financially recover and continue serving in ways that advance equity, inclusivity, safety, and innovation.

Support 71 nonprofit arts & culture organizations through grant programs.

Serve 2,500+ artists/culture workers and provide 1,200 individual relief grants.

Increase funding by 175% to organizations led by, or serving, people of color.

Thank you for everything you do to make sure #IndyKeepsCreating!

Emmanuel Carter

Thank you to those who joined us last year at (Re)Start With Art, presented by Schahet Hotels and produced in partnership with WFYI. The virtual benefit, emceed by actor Emmanuel Carter, offered an inspiring evening of stories, performances, and special guest appearances to recognize the power and resiliency of the arts. We also exceeded our goal of raising $1 million for the Keep Indy Creating Fund!

Arts Council of Indianapolis | 2021 Start with Art Safety Commitment & Requirements

Keeping our community healthy, safe, and creating is our highest priority. Please read the following safety requirements and guidelines as you prepare to attend Start with Art. The Arts Council believes three factors are making our Fall arts season, and future seasons, possible:

  1. The COVID-19 vaccine. The Arts Council is proud to join the Indiana Independent Venue Alliance (IIVA) in partnering with Bindle, a software platform that helps communities safely reopen and support entertainment entities. Venues across America, Broadway shows, international promoters and major touring artists are implementing safety measures and admission requirements for their events including proof of vaccination and/or proof of a negative test. We encourage you to learn more about the Bindle app to be ready for these requirements coming to our arts community soon.
  2. The dedication of artists, arts and cultural organizations, and audiences.
  3. Public and private funders who are helping our sector safely resume its role as a driver of economic and social well-being.

Thank you for your cooperation as we all do our part to support Indy’s Creative Comeback by following these precautionary measures at Start with Art:

Guidelines for Start with Art attendees:

  • All attendees, regardless of vaccination status, will be required to wear a mask covering their nose and mouth at ALL times, except when actively eating or drinking. Masks will be provided for guests who do not bring their own.
  • Please stay home if you are feeling unwell or if you have been exposed to someone who is feeling ill. You’ll still be able to enjoy Start with Art after the event, when it is available for on-demand viewing.
  • Social distancing is encouraged where possible.
  • Please continue regular handwashing and hand sanitizing.
  • Please read the COVID-19 Acknowledgment & Liability Waiver below.

Here’s what you can count on at Start with Art:

  • Everyone working the event will wear masks except when presenting/performing on stage. The stage will be distanced more than 10 feet from audience members.
  • Hand sanitizer stations throughout the venue.
  • Passed appetizers served during the reception (3-4 p.m.) to avoid congregating around serving areas, along with individually wrapped desserts and snacks at guest or sponsor tables during the program.
  • Private sponsor tables: Only those included on your invitee list will be seated at your table. Sponsors may invite up to 10 guests at their table.
  • For more information on the JW Marriott Indianapolis’ safety procedures, please visit their website
COVID-19 Acknowledgement & Liability Waiver for Start with Art attendees

While the Arts Council of Indianapolis (the “Arts Council”) is working closely with medical and public health experts and taking measures to enhance the safety of its visitors, artists, and staff, an inherent risk of contracting Covid-19 and other contagious diseases exists in any public space. In order to attend Start with Art on Aug. 26, 2021, at the JW Marriott Indianapolis, all visitors are required to read and accept the following waiver.

By attending Start with Art, I agree, on behalf of myself and everyone for whom I am buying tickets (including, without limitations, my children, if applicable), to comply with all health and safety protocols implemented by the Arts Council, as well as all applicable federal, state, and local rules and guidelines, and I agree, on behalf of myself and everyone for whom I am buying tickets (including, without limitations, my children, if applicable), that:

  • The Arts Council cannot guarantee that I or anyone in my party will not be exposed to and contract COVID-19 or other contagious diseases, and all those attending Start with Art do so at their own risk.
  • I accept, on behalf of myself and everyone for whom I am buying tickets (including, without limitations, my children, if applicable), the risk of being exposed to, contracting, and/or spreading Covid-19 or other contagious diseases along with all related consequences. I agree, on behalf of myself and everyone for whom I am buying tickets (including, without limitations, my children, if applicable), that this waiver means I and everyone in my party give up all right to bring any claims, including but not limited to claims of negligence, for such events.
  • Admission to Start with Art and is conditioned on compliance with health and safety protocols. Visitors who do not follow applicable protocols may be asked to leave the premises.
  • This contract will be governed by the laws of the State of Indiana.

Please note: We may share your name and email address with a governmental health authority should that information be requested for COVID-19 contact tracing purposes.
